Tortuguero: The Amazon of the Caribbean
Located on the northeast coast, Tortuguero can only be reached by boat or light aircraft. It is a peaceful sanctuary where the noise of engines is replaced by the sound of oars and animals.
The Turtle Sanctuary:
This is the most important site in the western Caribbean for green turtle nesting. Exploring its channels by canoe allows you to see alligators, manatees, and an endless variety of birds.
Best time to visit: Visit between July and October to experience the nighttime turtle nesting.
